1.00 Chance for young stars to shine

The Wallace International Piano Festival is on in Auckland next week.  It targets university and high school students, providing an opportunity for them to enjoy the company of other young pianists, to learn from world-class teachers and to enjoy some wonderful recitals. There's also a competitive side, this year open to under 18 year olds. Artistic Director Rae de Lisle explains how hard it’s been to narrow 25 applications down to 16 for the semi finals.

1.15 Death of a musician

Ethnomusicologist Mona-Lynn Courteau reflects on the life, and untimely death of well-known Pakistani musician Amjad Sabri. She explains why the singer, who performed Qawwali, devotional music from the Sufi tradition, was targeted by gunmen last week and why his funeral attracted thousands onto the streets of Karachi.

1.30 Us and Them

Stjohn Milgrew & Brendan Kitto explore the discarded and forgotten through their exhibition Us and Them as part of the 2016 Auckland Festival of Photography. The use both Polaroid film and instant film to capture the nostalgia of times gone by.

1.45 The Art of Etiquette – Contemporary dance

Asking the questions you're afraid to ask Zoë George goes in search of some truths:  What  is contemporary dance? Can you cheer  your favourite dancer? What about taking photos of the performers? And during an interactive dance class is it on to give your thoughts to the dance teacher? Zoë takes a step in a new direction with contemporary dancer, teacher and choreographer Gabrielle Thomas from Atamira Dance Company.
