The Modern Māori Quartet feature at this month’s Ahi Kaa Festival in Wellington as part of Matariki celebrations

The group is made up of drama school graduates James Tito, Matariki Whatarau, Maaka Pohatu, and Francis Kora who present their own version of classic Māori showbands of old, even down to the tailor-made brown Sir Howard Morrison suits.

They don’t just wheel out well known hits from the 1960s though, with their stage show featuring current artists like Lorde, interspersed with a good deal of banter and dry wit.

Eva Radich hosted the Modern Māori Quartet in Radio NZ’s Wellington studio for a korero and some song.
