One of Europe's leading choreographers Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui brings his take on Argentinian tango m¡longa to Auckland Arts Festival in March. The name m¡longa refers to informal tango events and the show focusses on the basic tenets of tango. Being a visionary choreographer, Cherkaoui captures these rituals and brings them to the 21st century with a group of contemporary dancers working with virtuosic tango couples.

There will also be a five-piece orchestra on stage playing a bespoke score, merging vintage tunes by Astor Piazzolla with newer compositions.

Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is internationally renowned for his groundbreaking and critically revered collaborations, with dancers of the like of Akram Khan, and has previously brought his shows Sutra and Babel to NZ Festival.
