Complexity of Belonging features nine characters asking the fundamental questions of who they are and where they belong.
Melbourne based contemporary dance company Chunky Moves is lead by Anouk van Dijk, who emigrated from Holland to Australia to take the job. Complexity of Belonging is based directly on some of her experiences of being a foreigner in Australia.
"Australia is both the oldest culture in the world and it's an immigration country, like New Zealand. The roots of that you feel all of the time in the people. People being bilingual, people connected to remote places in the world - far away from where they live. That was new to me... the relationship to immigration was very fascinating and was a big, big topic for the first few works I made."
