Drag racing and opera – not your usual pairing. But that’s the context for the new film The Great Maidens Blush from Wellington company Torchlight Films.
The Great Maidens Blush is about two very different new mothers – neither of whom has the support of a partner because of very divergent backstories. It stars Miriama McDowell as a young woman who feels more at home behind the wheel than looking after a baby, Renee Lyons as a failed concert pianist and KC Kelly as an opera singer.
An exquisite original soundtrack from Plan 9 underlines the emotional heart of their story.
