The World of Wearable Arts’ Supreme Award, as well as the Avant Garde Award, has gone to Gillian Saunders from Nelson. She first entered the WOW in 2002 and has entered almost every year since, winning an impressive total of 8 awards. Gillian has won the Avant Garde Award before but this is the first time she’s won the supreme award. It was for her ‘Supernova’, inspired by a famous dress, a sea monster fin and images from space and described in the catalogue as a “star explod[ing] in a far off galaxy”.
