What do you call a bassoon that weighs nearly six kilograms and is more than two meters long? “Bassoon-osaurus”, of course. That’s the new name affectionately given to the new baroque contrabassoon now residing at Pinchgut Opera in Sydney. Simon Rickard explains the ins and outs of handling such a large beast.
