Monet’s Le pont japonais (Japanese Bridge) (1918 – 1924) is the first Monet to be seen at Auckland Art Gallery. The depiction of his famous waterlily garden and Japanese bridge is one of only two of the famous painter’s works in the country, the other being held in Dunedin. Gallery Director Rhana Devenport explains what this means for Auckland Art Gallery and for kiwi art lovers.
