Reshaping an iconic opera

From Upbeat, 1:00 pm on 3 July 2017

International tenor Tom Randle is one of the key figures in New Zealand Opera’s reshaping of Bizet’s Carmen. Tom plays Don José the jilted lover of Carmen, who turns to violence when she leaves him for a new lover. It’s a story we see in the news all too often. Tom talks about how he and the NZ Opera cast have worked with director Lindy Hume to refocus Bizet’s opera on the domestic abuse at the heart of Carmen.
