1pm Self-playing piano gets a makeover

Self-playing pianos were popular at the beginning of last century but lost favour in the 20s. Famed piano makers Steinway have given the pianola a digital age makeover incorporating apps, iPads and contemporary tunes. John Eady explains how it can play the perfect concerto all by itself.

1.30pm Sol3 Mio supporter win major opera award

New Zealand born philanthropist Annette Campbell-White has been recognised at the International Opera Awards. Campbell-White established the Kia Ora Foundation after success in venture capital investment, but says anyone can be a philanthropist. She is especially proud of young New Zealand singers Amina Edris and brothers Amitai and Pene Pati who are working with San Francisco Opera where she is on the Board.
