Flutist Eric Lamb has resigned from his contract at the University of Auckland’s School of Music.

According to Lamb’s personal website he is a “Lecturer of Music and … coordinator of the student contemporary music ensemble” at the University.
His resignation follows a restructure of the school which saw five staff either made redundant or redeployed.
Professor Uwe Grodd, who also teaches flute, cello tutor Edith Salzmann and musicologist Peter Watts have confirmed their roles have been disestablished.

Lamb was not among the five staff members affected by the restructure.
His School of Music colleagues have been told of his resignation.
Eric Lamb told Upbeat in 2017 teaching at the School of Music has been a “great experience”.
“My focus is on teaching music, which I think is much more interesting and challenging than teaching flute repertoire,” he said.

Both Lamb and the University of Auckland have declined to comment on “employment matters” relating to his resignation.
Lamb says he is grateful to the University of Auckland for its support of his new album Quantz: 4 Concertos for Flute and Strings.
He also has a personal connection to the University of Auckland’s School of Music.
His partner is cellist and Head of School Associate Professor Martin Rummel, who was part of the panel that oversaw the school’s restructure.
