International artists on tour with NZ String Quartet

Two internationally acclaimed musicians, both well-loved by NZ audiences, are touring with members of the New Zealand String Quartet for Chamber Music New Zealand.

Australian pianist Piers Lane can frequently be heard as a soloist and recitalist in the world’s finest concert halls, whether it be Carnegie Hall in New York, or the Royal Albert or Wigmore Halls in London.

Double-bassist Hiroshi Ikematsu is former principal bassist with the NZSO, and now holds the principal position in the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

They’re joining with NZSQ members Monique Lapins, Gillian Ansell and Rolf Gjelsten, for concerts featuring a new work by Ross Harris and Schubert’s ever-popular Trout Quintet.

They’ve already played in Christchurch, Napier and New Plymouth, and with two concerts still to go, in Wellington and Auckland.

Upbeat caught up with the Australian contingent of the tour - violinist Monique Lapins and pianist Piers Lane.
