Sam Burstin moved to Wellington in early 2018 to take up the position of Associate Principal Viola in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra.

For twelve years Sam was a member of the Philharmonia Orchestra in London, and has played in all of the major London orchestras.

But another string to his bow - if you’ll excuse the pun - is conducting.

And he’s rather good at it – in 2014 Sam was a prize winner at the prestigious Evgeny Svetlanov International Conducting Competition in Paris.

Sam Burstin is conducting the inaugural concert of the Enzemble NZ in Wellington this Sunday.

Nick Tipping caught up with him and began by asking where the concept of this new group came from.
