Police in Solomon Islands say they no longer know the whereabouts of the man suspected of killing a New Zealand construction supervisor in Honiara in early February.

Kevin O'Brien died after the disgruntled worker stabbed him to death.

The suspect then left Honiara for Malaita but the police commissioner, Morton Siriheti, says he is still at large.

"He is still around maybe in Malaita or maybe here. There has been some arrangement made with this criminal investigation so that these people are arrested immediately"

Commissioner Siriheti says while his force lacks logistical support it has been successful in apprehending criminals and the prison is full.
