Five applicants are vying for the post of chief executive officer for the Samoan government-owned Polynesian Airlines to replace outgoing CEO, Richard Gates, whose term expired on January 1st.
Mr Gates resigned three months ago for health reasons.
The Samoa Observer newspaper says cabinet met to discuss the appointment last week and announcement is expected today.
The newspaper says the acting CEO, John Fitzgerald, is the front-runner for the job.
The airline has been seeking financial support at a time when the country has yet to pay off debts incurred years ago when Polynesian Airlines expanded routes to the US and got more aircraft to cope with an expected increase in passengers.
