56 Fiji rebel soldiers have pleaded guilty to taking over the military barracks on Vanua Levu after the May 2000 coup.

At the court martial in Suva, Lieutenants Rupeni Vosayaco and Nemani Valeniyasana pleaded guilty to a joint charge of inciting 54 soldiers to mutiny against their commanding officers.

All the soldiers admitted one joint charge of mutiny.

They claimed to support the coup led by George Speight.

The soldiers are expected to be sentenced later this week.
