Solomon Islands reduces overseas diplomatic staff

10:44 am on 29 January 2003

The Solomon Islands government has announced cutbacks in its diplomatic representation abroad.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says ongoing financial problems mean that offices in five countries will now be manned by Heads of Mission, while support staff will return to Honiara.

The five offices are in New York, Brussels, Taipei, Canberra and Port Moresby.
