Fiji tourism weathers Ami

6:06 pm on 29 January 2003

The Fiji Visitors Bureau says Cyclone Ami had little effect in the country's tourism industry.

Its chief executive, Bill Gavoka, says the bureau has reviewed the impact of the cyclone on tourism, especially in the north which was the worst hit by Ami.

Mr Gavoka says tourist plant operators in the north have assured him that all are fully operational.

He says at a time like this tourism is more important than ever to support the economy and they want to get the message out to the world that the cyclone had little effect on the industry.
