A former national representative soccer player in Samoa has been jailed for a year for having sex with a minor.

23-year-old Vissan Patu pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawful carnal knowledge of a 13 year old girl.

He apologised to the court, but claimed he had been misled by the girl.

The court took the apology and guilty plea into account.

The Chief Justice Patu Tiavaasue Sapolu says Patu had also made an apology to the victim's family and paid compensation.
