Cooks police to investigate allegations of civil liberty breaches

9:31 am on 16 May 2002

The Cook Islands deputy police commissioner says an internal investigation will be undertaken into allegations of breaches of civil liberties.

Ma'ara Tetava says as far as he is aware, police have been following procedures but they will be looking into the matter.

The deputy commissioner says he's not officially heard from the law society about their concerns but the police will be taking action.

"Firstly we need to do an internal investigation as to the allegations made in the media, and then, from that, I hope we will come up with a better procedure on how to deal with these concerns raised."
