8:25 am on 25 May 2002

A search will resume this morning for a light aircraft carrying five people, including four local politicians, which went missing in French Polynesia yesterday.

The plane took off from Kaukura atoll and failed to arrive as scheduled in Makemo in the Tuamotu archipelago.

Aircraft and helicopters and French naval vessels are taking part in the search along with several other ships.

The four politicians on board the plane include the president of the pro-autonomy Fetia Api Party, Boris Leontieff

Two other members of the party are also on the plane, together with a politician from the Marqueses islands.
