35 Solomon Islands MPs sign no-gun declaration

Thirty-five of the fifty members of the Solomon Islands parliament have now signed a document declaring that neither they nor members of their families have possession of or access to any firearms or ammunition.

The list of signatories includes the Prime Minister, Sir Allen Kemakeza, former prime ministers, Francis Billy Hilly and Manasseh Sogovare and opposition leader, Patteson Oti.

Three members of the cabinet have yet to sign the document.
