The newly elected Vanuatu parliament is expected to choose the only woman MP as the deputy speaker.

Under a deal struck between the winning coalition partners, the position will go to Isabelle Donald of the Vanua'aku Pati who is only the third woman to ever be elected to parliament.

The speaker's post will go to an MP of the Union of Moderate Parties.

The coalition has also agreed to give two portfolios to independents.

Nicholas Brown will be the minister in charge of the Comprehensive Reform Programme and Michael Ture has been offered the ni-Vanuatu business development portfolio.
