Fiji top leaders to hold meetings regularly

11:22 am on 11 June 2002

Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, and the Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, are expected to meet regularly after what they have described as successful weekend discussions.

Mr Chaudhry told Radio Fiji that more meetings are on the cards until they resolve national issues affecting the country.

The two leaders failed to reach agreement on a multi-party cabinet, leaving it to the supreme court.

Mr Qarase says a multi-party cabinet places the prime minister at too much of a disadvantage.
