Two Fiji diplomatic postings still not confirmed by hosts

The Fiji government's appointments to two top diplomatic posts abroad remain in limbo.

Last month the government namde police commissioner, Col Isikia Savua, to be the country's new ambassador to the United Nations.

Bau high chief, Ratu Tua'kitau Coka-na-uto was named the new High Commissioner in London, a post that has been vacant since January.

But Radio Fiji reports that neither the United Nations nor the British government has confirmed that the nominees are acceptable to them.

The foreign minister, Kaliopate Tavola, says he is still awaiting a response from the UN and the British government.

Fiji's two previous nominees to the high commissioner's post in London were turned down by the British government because of their alleged involvement in the May 2000 coup.
