The Honiara Civil Society Network has called on the Solomon Islands government to clarify its position on the plan by some businesspeople to import toxic waste from Taiwan.
The Network says the government's delay in rejecting the plan has damaged Solomon Islands' international reputation and keeps undermining the integrity of the Kemakeza government.
It also accuses the prime minister of misleading the nation by saying the permanent secretary in the agriculture ministry, Dr Morgan Wairiu, had applied for an overseas job.
It says this is wrong and Dr Wairiu has not sought another job.
The Network says Dr Wairiu's position on the waste issue gives the nation hope in a situation when corruption is widespread.
Taiwan, which is a key aid donor of the Solomons, has banned the export of the toxic waste.
