Eleven missing in Fiji after a boat capsizes

2:15 pm on 18 June 2002

The Fiji navy and police are conducting a search for eleven villagers missing at sea between Taveuni and Koro islands.

An open punt carrying 13 people capsized in rough seas between the two islands yesterday.

Two people managed to swim ashore and raise the alarm before being admitted to the Taveuni hospital where they are recovering.

But rough seas and strong winds are hampering the search for seven men and four women who are still missing.

The navy has again warned people not to travel on overloaded boats.
