Hilton chain to build new resort in Fiji

5:50 am on 21 June 2002

There are prospects of significant job creation in Fiji with the announcement that the Hilton chain will build a 78 million US dollar resort at Denarau Island near Nadi.

The Hilton Fiji Beach Resort will feature over 420 rooms, 109 villas in the first stage, 5 restaurants and conference and business centres.

57 of the villas have already been pre-sold in New Zealand.

One thousand workers will be engaged in the construction stage with about 600 full-time jobs at the resort on its completion in three years.

A significant feature of the proposal is for the landowners of Denarau Island to buy 10 villas for renting with the proceeds from the lease of the site.
