Fiji prime minister calls for protests in Nadi to be deferred

Fiji's prime minister, Laisenia Qarase, has called on people who want to organise protests during the summit of African, Carribean and Pacific leaders in Nadi this week not to do so.

Mr Qarase says marches and protests will only create a bad image of Fiji.

He says there are about 1-thousand delegates coming to the conference some of whom are heads of state.

He says his plea to the protestors is not to march and protest this week but to do it next week or some other time.
