US to get back it's toxic PCB waste from CNMI

The Commonwealth of the Mariana Islands says a shipment of toxic waste will be transported to Nevada next week, despite moves to stop its entry to the United States mainland. .

A shipment of PCB filter cakes is being shipped from Saipan to Nevada as part of the government's cleanup of toxic waste sites in the US territory.

The Nevada governor, Kenny Guinn has opposed the shipment and says he will block the entry of the PCBs into his state.

Frank Ono from the US Army Corp of Engineers says the PCB shipment from CNMI to Nevada will go ahead as planned next Tuesday and that there is nothing Governor Guinn can do to block it.

Last week, the CNMI Governor, Juan Babauta says while he sympathises with the Nevada governor, he would also block the shipment's return to Saipan.
