Solomon Islands police say they have charged Uriel Deramo with the killing of New Zealander Kevin O'Brien in February this year.
Deramo, who has also been referred as John Buarafi, was arrested on Friday and charged with Mr O'Brien's murder at the Honiara base of a construction company for which they both worked.
Since then the alleged killer has been on the island of Malaita where he has reportedly been harboured by family including his police officer brother.
Some weeks ago Cabinet Minister, Benjamin Una, who at the time was Police Minister, claimed Deramo had confessed to him.
Mr Una said Deramo was his nephew.
The director of CID Jackson Ofu says Deramo is now in custody in Honiara and will make his first court appearance this Friday in the capital.
