A United Nations Decolonizing Committee has been visiting Tokelau at the invitation of the New Zealand government to assess its progress towards self determination.

The Committee says the team's mission was to assess the status of Tokelau's institutions of government, its constitutional and legal development and its economic and social progress.

The team will then make recommendations to further advance Tokelau's self determination process.

At present the nation of three atolls is administered by New Zealand.
