Police in Samoa are investigating the triple murder of a family from the village of Sa'anapu.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims but police have said the murder involved three family members and all were shot dead.

Police say they believe the three victims were part of a murder-suicide carried out by one of the deceased.

Police say a 73-year old man entered his sister's house, shot her son, then his sister and finally turned the gun on himself.

The sister was 65 and her son was 47 years old.

The cause of the incident was believed to be a land dispute.
