PNG businesses want more reliable power supply

The president of the Papua New Guinea Chamber of Commerce says the government needs to look at how it can improve the performance of the power supply company.

Michael Mayberry's comments come after PNG Power appealed to the people of Port Moresby to save power because of three of their generators failing.

Mr Mayberry says he has had reports of businesses suffering damages to electirical equipment because of fluctuating power levels.

He says while some of the problems can be attributed to the dry weather, PNG Power has always experienced difficulties.

Mr Mayberry says there needs to be changes in the organisation.

"We really need a good management team in there. Whilst the people atn PNG Power may be in technical terms okay I think a lot of them are very disillusioned now because they've been trying to cope with the problem for such a long time. There needs to be some strengthening of that team to revitalise and challenge that organisation."

Michael Mayberry says the government needs to show leadership as businesses suffer from the poor services offered by public utilities.
