American Samoa cannery files appeal after losing land case

4:41 pm on 26 September 2002

The tuna cannery Starkist Samoa, the largest employer in American Samoa, has appealed a court decision ruling it had expanded its boundaries without consent and had refused to pay more for its lease.

That decision came in a suit brought by the Sunni Groves family.

The Starkist Samoa lawyer, Jeff Waller, says the cannery has decided to continue with legal action.

"What Starkist has asked the court to do is examine certain facts and certain points of law supporting the judges decision and asking him very kindly if he will change his mind"

Jeff Waller.

The High Court hearing for the motion of re-consideration is set for October the 21st.
