Papua New Guinea government slashes MP allowances to save money

Papua New Guinea's Salaries and Renumeration Commission has agreed to cut 16.2 percent of politician allowances.

The National reports Parliamentary Speaker Bill Skate saying that the allowance cuts would result in savings of over 7-hundred thousand US dollars annually.

Mr Skate says allowances affected will be vehicle, entertainment, credit facilities, monies given in advance.

He says the decisions were made to save money for the Government to ensure that basic goods and services reach the people of Papua New Guineans
