Oil giants could face legal over fuel shortages in American Samoa

4:23 pm on 11 October 2002

The American Samoan Government may take action against the multi national oil suppliers for the fuel shortage being experienced in the Territory.

That was a comment from Governor Tauese Sunia during a local radio talk back show, after his office had been bombarded with angry callers, upset at having to queue to receive small rations of petrol.

He also expressed his anger at goverment officials who had failed to keep a close watch on the suppliers and the reserves available.

Petrol has been ferried to the Territory from Samoa this week, but supplies are meagre and today some service stations have had to close down.
