Fiji's military commander, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has denied a report thatr he is leaving the army to take up a United Nations posting in Kuwait.

The local radio report earlier this week said Commodore Bainimarama, who had earlier refused several offers of diplomatic postings by the Fiji government, had accepted the UN offer.

It said the commander could resign from his position as early as next month to take up the two-year appointment.

But he denied report, saying he has intention to leave the military.
