Aviation board in PNG sacked for under performance

4:20 pm on 1 November 2002

The Papua New Guinea Transport and Civil Aviation minister has announced the Civil Aviation Authority board has been sacked.

Don Polye says he gave the terminated board members 14 days notice as required.

The Post Courier reports that he says new appointments would be made next week when the notice period expires.

Mr Polye says a report on the authority showed that the board had failed to deliver.

He says the objectives of a retrenchment program had not been met and the authority had run into debt of between 1-POINT-4 and 1-POINT-8 million US dollars.
