The re-elected American Samoan member of the US Congress says he will continue to press for more assistance to develop the territory's infrastructure.

Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin won this week's run-off election to win the seat for an unpresedented eighth term.

He says the days of total dependence from Washington are over.

But he says he doesn't feel he is to be blamed for the shortfalls.

"Everything that's gone wrong with our health care system. I kind of like to feel that the governor and the fono also has responsibility in the affairs of our government and not only the congressman."
