Pocket knives, razor blades, bullets and traditional war clubs are among some of the carry-on items that federal airport screeners have confiscated from local travellers at Pago Pago International Airport in American Samoa.

The US Department of Security Administration took over the screening of passengers ar the local airport earlier this month.

D'ferral Hoskins of the Department of Security Administration says the changeover has been smooth and travellers are accepting and understanding of the need for extra precautions.

But he said people were not generally aware of what they can and cannot take on a flight with them.

Cricket bats and souvenir carvings with sharp ends are also on the prohibited list
