Papua New Guinea's government has given police orders to commence border operations to push separatists from Indonesia back into the province of Papua.

Members of the separatist group, the OPM, were given until last Wednesday to move off PNG soil.

The acting provincial administrator in Sandaun, Joseph Sungi, says reports he's recieved indicate the rebels have complied with the deadline.

The authorities say any Papuan rebels remaining on PNG soil will be arrested.

A police mobile squad of 47 men will be joined by soldiers based at the Vanimo army base.
