The People's Alliance Party in Solomon Islands is expected to discuss the leadership of the prime minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, at its council meeting on Saturday amid threats by a party member to the public broadcaster, the SIBC.

The meeting is the first scheduled one of the year and has had no agenda but insiders says the position of Sir Allan who is due to return this week from a trip to Australia and South Korea is almost certain to be raised.

The trip has been described as a private one but the radio report says the unannounced visit could cost Sir Allan his job.

A party member has reportedly taken exception to the report and threatened to sue the broadcaster if it failed to reveal the source of the claim.
