TB checks carried out in Marshalls outer atolls

11:31 am on 18 February 2003

A pilot study has just been completed in the outer atolls of the Marshall Islands in order to identify the level of tuberculosis infection.

It's hoped the research will help health authorities combat what is thought to be growing problem.

The US Centre for Disease Control is collaborating with the Marshall's Ministry of Health to determine what level of response is needed.

The first outer atoll to be checked was Utrik and the information collected is now being reviewed.
