The first prisoner to be released after serving the sentence for his part in the May 2000 Fiji coup says it feels great to be out.

Iliesa Duvuloco was released this morning along with two other coup convicts, Samu Konataci and Maciu Lavakasusua.

Duvuloco has told Radio Fiji that all the other coup convicts still held on Nukulau Island are fine and well.

He says they are looking forward to the day when they will be released.

Duvuloco was a defence witness this morning at the treason trial of the two coup accomplices who have pleaded not guilty, Josefa Nata and Timoci Silatolu.

Meanwhile, Radio Fiji also reports that six of the other coup convicts who have applied to be allowed to serve the remainder of their terms from home are likely to remain on Nukulau Island.

The commissioner of prisons, Aisea Taoka, has confirmed the applications of the six have not been approved.
