The new Solomon Islands police commissioner, William Morell, has come under strong criticism from local media.
The country's only national newspaper, the Solomon Star, has questioned Mr Morrell's motives for banning the local press from his tour of two provinces, currently underway.
In its editorial, the Solomon Star says Solomon Islanders had a right to know what was happening in the police force, especially what its commissioner was saying and doing on such tours.
The commissioner has rejected attempts by the national broadcaster and the Solomon Star to have reporters on the tour.
The Solomon Star claims Mr Morrell had said he wanted his tour of Isabel and Western Province kept quiet.
