Scurvy found at a Solomon Island prison

A local farm has stepped in to help inmates of the Rove Central Prison in Solomon Islands after an outbreak of scurvy was discovered.

Scurvy is a potentially fatal vitamin deficiency.

The Taiwanese backed, King George Farm, has already contributed a truck full of fresh vegetables to the prison.

The Director of Taiwan's Technical Mission, Robert Sheng-Tsair, says the farm is happy to give vegetable seedlings so that prisoners can grow their own crops.

The Solomon Island's Broadcasting Corporation say proper food supplies for prisoners have been affected by the funding crisis that has hit the whole country.
