Funeral of Nauru President Dowiyogo

Nauru is today due to hold the funeral of President Bernard Dowiyogo.

Mr Dowiyogo died on Sunday last week in a Washington DC hospital, after undergoing emergency heart surgery.

The funeral was originally scheduled for yesterday but there has been a delay in getting Mr Dowiyogo's body from Washington to Nauru.

Among those attending the funeral are the New Zealand governor-general, Dame Sylvia Cartwright, the speaker of the Cook Islands Parliament, Pupuke Ropati, Niue's high commissioner to New Zealand, Hima Takelesi, and Samoan cabinet minister, Tagaloa Tuasale Tagaloa.

Also attending are the Speaker of the Fiji House of Representatives, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, as well as diplomats from the US, Britain, France and Japan.
