Fiji retailers concerned about Iraq war

The Fiji Retailers Association says the price of fuel, already high, will go up because of the Iraq war, affecting all downstream costs and prices.

Bus and taxi operators say their costs will go up which could justify an increase in fares.

The president of the Fiji Taxi Union, Tauz Khan, says local fuel suppliers should make arrangements with Australia and New Zealand to stock up on fuel for Fiji users.

The Fiji Footwear and Textile Council says any prolonged conflict with Iraq will have the potential to drastically affect garment exports to the US and result in the closure of more factories.

The US is a leading buyer of Fiji's garments, taking about 30 percent of total exports.
