3:21 pm on 31 March 2003

A memorial service is being held in Hawaii today for the American Samoan governor, Tauese Sunia, who died on a Honolulu-bound flight last week.

More than 500 people are expected to be at the service.

Tauese's body is to be flown to Pago Pago tomorrow night which is to be followed by an overnight wake service at the government's Executive Office Building.

Meanwhile, both the American Samoan Senate and the House of Representatives are to finalise their plans for the funeral which is to be held as the end of the week.

Senator Tulifua Lam Yuen says lawmakers should contribute from their own pockets and not from funds approved by the fono.
